In 2020 Scott Holcomb of Granby CT. decided to run some races with Sprint Cars of New England since his normal schedule got shut down from COVID. Well Sunday at Devil's Bowl Speedway in West Haven , VT. Holcomb showed up again after losing a motor back in July. The day started of with twenty two sprint cars signing in and doing the pill draw for starting spots in one of three heat races. In the FK Rod Ends Heat Race #1 , Matt Tanner from third spot got the lead on lap one, as they entered turn one on lap three Will Hull moved by Tanner and would win the eight lap heat race over Tanner , Corey Sparks, Jake Williams, Clay Dow, Wade Prentice, and Lacy Hanson. The O'Reilly Auto Parts Heat race #2 , Chris Donnelly got a good start and led the first two laps as Joe Kata passed him in turn two to lead lap three and on lap five Caleb Lamson went off the track in turn two and came back over the edge about three feet off the ground and kept it going, at the same time Thomas Radivoy went off in turn one as well. On the restart it was Kata , Holcomb, Donnelly mixing it up for the top spot. Donnelly ended up winning the race followed by Kata , Holcomb, Jordan Fornwalt, Jesse Pruchnik, Lamson, and Radivoy. The Kreitz Oval Track Parts Heat race #3, saw the father and son team of Travis Billington leading lap one and then his father Floyd Billington passed him to lead the next four laps only to be passed by a hard charging Brett Wright who went on to win the heat race followed by F. Billington, T. Billington, Chad Miller, Adam Pierson, Mike Horsch, Rick Stone , and Kurt Conklin,
With former SCoNE series champion Dan Douville as the Grand Marshall waving the green flag to start the race .
The A main would see the 305 powered machine of Corey Sparks and Scott Holcomb starting on the front row after the invert . Holcomb would get the jump and took the lead coming off turn two. As the feild came out of turn four two cars got together and spun to bring out a caution. On the restart Jesse Pruchnik would go off the edge in turn one and flip over to bring out a red flag. Pruchnik was OK but his car badly damaged and done for the event. On the next restart Kurt Conklin got into Caleb Lamson and Konlin was done with front end damage. With finally a good restart and laps going by fast the leader Holcomb was catching lapped traffic on lap ten . On lap eleven Sparks decided it was time to try and go for the lead he got side by side with Holcomb but couldn't make it stick down low. Lap twelve just as the racing action was getting hot Clay Dow spun in turn one but never stopped and then the caution flag waved. On this restart the field was tightened up and Holcomb was getting pressure from a few cars, Matt Tanner stuck it on the bottom of turn one and got into Holcomb slightly and spinning Tanner around and Jordan Fornwalt and Wade Prentice also got collected , all three would join the field at the tail end. The racing got even more exciting as the laps were winding down and holcomb was being pressured by Will Hull, Sparks , and Brett Wright was there as well. With two laps remaining Wright pulled off the track out of fuel and Hull got along Holcomb and then made slight contact in the backstretch which Hull lost just enough that Sparks dove it down low into turn three to make a three car battle for the lead on the white flag lap. At the checkered it was Scott Holcomb taking the win followed by Corey Sparks, and Will Hull third. Chris Donnelly and Joe Kata were fourth and fifth. rounding out the top ten were Clay Dow, Travis Billington, Matt Tanner, Adam Pierson, and Jake Williams. A good crowd with COVID restrictions in place were on hand to see a good race and hopefully the race fans will come out to our next event at RumTown Speedway in Wentworth, NH. on Saturday September 12 with two features for SCoNE with the make up race from rain out of July third.
