Lacaillade Masonry, LA Transportation Services step up to offer bonuses
PLATTSBURGH, New York (August 2, 2025) – The McGee Automotive Family Sprint Cars of New England (SCoNE) Tour’s upcoming doubleheader weekend just got a lot more exciting. Drivers have something extra to race for on August 9-10 with the brand-new “Lake Champlain Series” presented by Lacaillade Masonry and LA Transportation Services at Airborne Park Speedway and Devil’s Bowl Speedway.
The Lacaillade Masonry/LA Transportation Services Lake Champlain Series will be held at Airborne Park Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY on Saturday, August 9, and its sister track, Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven, VT, on Sunday, August 10. The tracks are located about two hours apart on either side of beautiful Lake Champlain, and the back-to-back events mark the first of two weekend doubleheaders on the 2025 SCoNE calendar.
Lonnie Lacaillade and Anthony Cain – longtime supporters of Sprint Car racing in the region – have stepped up to support the weekend at their home tracks and create the mini-series. Based in Huntington, VT, Lacaillade Masonry is an award-winning industry leader known for craftsmanship and quality in both major and minor building and bricklaying jobs. LA Transportation Services, headed up by Cain in Fairfax, VT, specializes in heavy duty transportation, truck repairs, and customizing.
Lacaillade and Cain each competed in the past with SCoNE and the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) tour, with Cain’s familiar No. 15C car finishing as the championship runner-up in SCoNE’s inaugural 2004 season and winning four races. Lacaillade was also a winning Late Model driver when Airborne Park Speedway was paved in the 1990s.
As a nod to the No. 15C car, the champion of the two-night series will earn a cool $515 bonus, with the runner-up taking $215, and third through fifth place each earning an extra $115 bump. Those bonuses come on top of the $1,015-to-win race purses offered each night. The Lake Champlain Series championship will be determined by total points earned in qualifying heats and feature races at both tracks during the weekend. Both events also count toward the 14-race McGee SCoNE Tour season championship.
“It’s so rewarding for us to have the support of Lacaillade Masonry and LA Transportation Services on a lot of levels,” SCoNE president Justin St. Louis said. “They’re local to Airborne and Devil’s Bowl, they have outstanding reputations in business, and they have a special place in racing in this region. Their ties to SCoNE are decades deep and there are personal friendships with many people in our group. It’s great to have Lonnie and Anthony with us.”
Stephentown, NY’s Matt Tanner leads the McGee SCoNE Tour into the Lake Champlain Series, but not by much; Travis Billington of South Glens Falls, NY trails by just six points and defending champion Matt Hoyt of Campton, NH is within 10 points of Tanner’s lead in the standings. In fact, the first 11 drivers are just 82 points apart. Canadian Jordan Poirier won the SCoNE season opener at Airborne Park in April and Chase Moran won at Devil’s Bowl in July. Other SCoNE winners this season include Tanner, Hoyt, and Chris Donnelly, while other podium finishers have included Travis and Floyd Billington, Jeff Trombley, Troy Comeau, Caiden Herbert, Dalton Rombough, Will Hull, Jake Williams, and Danny Varin.
SCoNE rules require axle tethers, cockpit safety bars, and mufflers on all cars. Any tire and any fuel are permitted for competition, and wicker bills may be three inches (3”) maximum height. In-cockpit adjustments are not allowed, except wing sliders. Drivers are required to purchase either a full-season or temporary SCoNE license and file a $20 race entry fee. Qualifying heat starting lineups will be set by the SCoNE handicap system, with a two-group redraw for the A-Main feature lineups.
